Welcome to Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady – Gavi

Periyar Tourism is a non-governmental, private organization actively involved in environmental conservation, human resource development, and the promotion of eco-tourism activities. Since 2008, Periyar Tourism has been a leading force in practical conservation efforts across Kerala. The organization has consistently worked to attract and manage a dedicated group of volunteers committed to improving the state’s natural environment.

Periyar National Park, also known as Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, is a protected area located in the Indian state of Kerala. Nestled in the Western Ghats mountain range, the park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including elephants, tigers, leopards, and a wide variety of bird species. One of the main attractions is Periyar Lake, a serene man-made reservoir created in 1895, which now serves as a haven for aquatic life and a picturesque spot for wildlife viewing.

Periyar Tourism emphasizes eco-tourism and adventure tourism. Visitors can enjoy guided boat rides on the lake to spot wildlife, embark on jungle treks, and experience the thrill of bamboo rafting. The reserve also offers a range of accommodation options, from cozy guesthouses to luxury resorts. The best time to visit Periyar is between December and April.

Recognized as one of the most visited national parks in India, Periyar is a key destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. It is especially famous for its elephant population and the breathtaking landscapes of the Western Ghats. It is considered one of the best places in the country to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat.

Please note: Charges for eco-tourism activities may vary from standard ticket rates, depending on availability, the combination of programs chosen, and applicable service charges.
